Thonet Bentwood Dining Chairs
Michael Thonet was one of the most important innovators in bentwood furniture-making early in the previous century. He patented a process of bending under heat several layers of wood veneer glued together and laminated, and he used the new material to create curved back-rails and legs. Responsible for a great number of chair designs, this set is classic Thonet but not as commonly seen with upholstered backs and seats. These retain the original black finish which is in good vintage condition with some small areas of touch up. The chairs are super sturdy with no wobble or loose joints. Dating from the 1960’s, this set features original green vinyl and studded backs. The green vinyl has fading and one chair has rips in the top two corners (see photos). Can be used as is but would look smashing if reupholstered (price below to have them redone).
